Social Change in Russia

Marie Mendras

Abstract

In 1998 The Tocqueville Review (Vol. XIX, n°1) published a series of articles which gave a variety of insights into the question of "Who Rules Russia?" Four years later, as President Putin already prepares for his reelection in 2004, we have addressed the issue from different perspectives. The approach is both sociological and political. Each author has a profound knowledge of Russian society, Russian modes of thinking and acting socially, in the recent past as much as in the very immediate present.
