Challenges and benefits of implementing the CESSDA Metadata Model in an existing environment

Résumé

Providing access to research Social Science data and metadata is one of the missions of the Center for Socio-Political Data (CDSP), a service unit of Sciences Po and of the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS). The CDSP is member of PROGEDO, an infrastructure for SSH Data, which is the French CESSDA provider. The CDSP is currently reviewing its documentation practices and dissemination tools, in order to make its data FAIRer and more usable. This dynamic, that began a few years ago with a DDI-L experimentation process, is continuing with the adoption of a Dataverse for the dissemination of our data and metadata. In parallel, we are working on a DDI-L question bank that should be harvested in the future European EQB. In this evolving environment, the European experts’ recommendations have been of precious help to us. The CESSDA Metadata Model and the Controlled vocabularies of the DDI Alliance are two of the resources that we are using to improve our processes and to be harvested in the CESSDA data catalogue.
