Interactive Exploration Tools for Geospatial Data on the Web

Abstract

With archives of geospatial data becoming larger and more varied, data exploration and analysis is often a greater challenge than data access. Unfortunately, geospatial analysis tools are generally expensive, and hence are frequently not at a user’s disposal. To address the problem of accessibility, web based visualization tools have become more common. However, just as interactive online technologies progress, so do the tools that rely on these technologies. As such, most geospatial analysis tools on the web are lacking certain desired features that might be found in their more advanced desktop counterparts. This paper was presented the 37th conference of IASSIST (Vancouver, Canada - 30 May-3 June 2011) and to the 4th conference of the European Survey Research Association (Lausanne, Suisse, 18-22 July 2011).
