Renouvellement associatif et démocratie : regards croisés sur la France et les États-Unis

Abstract

The article examines the relationship between society and the political world and looks at the history of associations in the U.S. and France from 1960 to 2010. The author distinguishes the three major phases of the mobilization and renewal of associations in both countries including the cultural revolution from 1960 to 1970 and the profound ideological disillusion and deceptions for associations and movements issued from the democratic renewal from 1970 to 1980. Topics include community based organizations, small group movements, competitive voluntarism, and independent associations.
