Les risques d’un métier : être chercheur en 2021

Abstract : The hazards of a job: being a researcher in 2021 -- Research institutions are changing and our profession is changing too, as they are buffeted by different currents and social demands. Over the last twenty years, access to the field and research funding have been subject to new mechanisms that pose problems. The question of risk and that of the civil liability of the institution employing the researcher have come to the fore, but without the researcher being really involved in this conversation. The evaluation of physical risk is granted to different entities, but often increasingly distant from the academic world and eager to assert their own priorities. This transformation, which leads to greater control of the researcher's activity and a bureaucratisation of his or her world, goes hand in hand with a change in funding, that prioritizes projects circumscribed in time, which may encourage researchers with precarious status to take more risks with regard to methodology and paradoxically to their physical safety.
