La pauvreté post-industrielle au Royaume-Uni

Résumé

Acute poverty exists in the UK, the cradle of the industrial revolution, the Welfare State and Thatcher’s counter-revolutionary neo-liberalism. The article first examines the methods used to measure poverty, describes a profile of those most affected. Next it looks at the main consequences and the official response over the past fifteen years. Poverty has worsened as a result of the recent adoption of austerity measures by the government of David Cameron, which have led to an increase in the household debt of the least well off. This situation has reinvigorated the protest movements whose focus is on the fight against poverty.
