Mémoire, héritage, filiation : Dire le gaullisme et se dire gaulliste au RPR

Abstract : Memory, inheritance, formal reference. proclaiming Gaullism and calling oneselF Gaullist in the RPR The distinction of three forms of reference to the post-inheritance (substantialized reference), memory (integrated reference), and formal reference (filiation) -clarifies the variations in the RPR's relation to Gaullism. The concept of « Gaullist heritage» was derived from a social and popular version of Gaullism. It was brought up mostly in a context of internal opposition. The « Gaullist party memory », held by a specific social group and marked by two historic fractures (the Resistance and the Algerian war), has been affected by dilution. The construction of a formal reference to Gaullism has thus become increasingly a reproduction of verbal codes.
