This book edited by Borchert and Zeiss is an attempt to study on a systematic basis‘politics as a profession’ in ‘advanced democracies’. It is the result of a long andimpressive international work, putting together 20 national contributions includingWestern European countries as well as Australia, Israel, Japan, New Zealand and theUnited States. The title of the book is somewhat misleading as its real focus is not the‘political profession’ nor the ‘political class’ but the legislatures regarded as the coreof political systems in industrialised advanced democracies (...).
