Le basculement du regard : La question de "l’entrepreneur rural"

Abstract : The experience that the Study and Proposal Committee (CEP) acquired in rural development in Isère Department, France, is evidence of how viewpoints in French rural sociology changed during the 1980s. Formed within the association People and Culture, this committee brought together in a "research-action program" farmers from mountainous areas, organizers and researchers in the social sciences. Progress was thus made both in discussions about the occupational identity of farmers menaced by the intensification and specialization of farming and in the thought given to the role of social scientists in conducting actions. Looking back, we see that this change of viewpoints seems incomplete since this experience did not actually lead to defining a new system of reference for farmers.
