L’engagement de François Mitterrand au Moyen-Orient

Abstract : Probably no other Fifth Republic president has been as involved in the Middle East as was François Mitterrand. During the Israeli siege of Beirut in 1982, or the Iraqi occupation of Kuwait in 1990-91, he tried repeatedly to achieve a political solution to the crisis. This commitment on dangerous grounds was sustained despite the threat of terrorism, that stroke France on its soil (in August 1982 or September 1986) or in the region.
