L'autorité religieuse en contexte post-soviétique : Regard sur le fonctionnement des paroisses russes orthodoxes

Abstract : The Russian Orthodox Church has often been perceived as a specific institution evolving in its own way. But this article argues that social and religious practices are congruent. Indeed, religious and political power relations follow the same pattern. In many ways the parochial organization is influenced by the post-Soviet context. Still, some members of the Church protest against some of its latest evolutions in the name of Tradition. This paper explores different levels of Church government and the relationships between parishioners and priests. It analyses practices of blessing and obedience. The study is based on interviews with priests and laity in various Russian eparchies between 2008 and 2010, together with letters written by priests and religious press.
