Crise de l’Occident, crise du christianisme, crise de la différence

Abstract : Crisis in the Occident, crisis of Christianity, crisis of difference A number of analyses of the cultural crisis that our societies are going through find their inspiration in the rejection of the indeterminate, immanent and relative character of the political organization of the modern world. Crisis, as a decisive point, appears as the very identity of the modern, constructed outside of all absolute foundation, in the indetermination of political ends and moral pluralism. Crisis of the subject, crisis of difference, crisis of the universal, all are the stakes involved in a generalized competition of world visions and questioning of the nature of the good and the just. “Living” in crisis and finding salvation there imply choosing between renouncing of all universalism or defining a “grammar” that would encompass all the particular versions of humanity, and carrying on with a reflexion upon the way human beings can be spared from fear, oppression and cruelty.
