Poland: A Systemic Transforming Process From State-Planned to Liberal Economy

Abstract

After 1990, privatization became the decisive policy for the internal transformation of former Soviet-type economies throughout Central and Eastern Europe. It corresponded with the first post-communist decade (1990s) and provided a basis for the second transformation in the 2000s. This second transformation could be classified as being externally driven in that it took place as preparation for entry into the EU. These two periods are covered by the present chapter, which will focus on an analysis of the Polish case and the transformation of state-owned enterprises.
