Multiculturalism in France

Abstract : Can the individual successfully maintain double citizenship and plural allegiances? This article discusses how multiculturalism in France may seem odd amidst French political values, and how some trends of multiculturalism have managed to impose themselves on the French model of citizenship and integration. Going back to the Revolution of 1789 and the days of Jacobins and Girondins, Catherine de Wenden traces the development of republicanism and identity in Europe.
