Nouvelle judéophobie ou vieil antisémitisme ?

Abstract : Drawing on data from various surveys, this article relativizes the oft-mooted rise of a “new Judeophobia” : the demonization of Israel and Zionism by both radical Islamism and the pro-Third World extreme left. In France, at least, outspoken anti-Semitism is on the decline. Anti-Jewish sentiment remains correlated with other forms of racism and associated with the same factors: low socio-economic status, right-wing or extreme right-wing political orientation. Moreover, this anti-Semitism appears relatively independent of the degree of sympathy/antipathy expressed for the protagonists in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Ariel Sharon and Yasser Arafat.
