The Contemporary Conversation about the French Connection “Liberté, égalité, fraternité”: Neoliberal Equality and “Non-brothers”

Abstract : Today’s uses of parity and diversity say much about the principle of equality in 21st-century French society. This article analyses the role they play in the contemporary conversation about the French republican motto ‘Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité’. To that end, it addresses the way in which the uses of parity and diversity question the dilemmas of “republican equality”, along with the political dimension of the advent of neoliberalism.
