Les organisations patronales et la représentation institutionnelle des intérêts au CESE

Abstract : This chapter focuses on the members of the European Economic and Social Committee who held seats between 1958 and 2006 - especially but not solely on French members and on representatives of employers/businesses. Studying the trajectories of these members tells us a lot about the logics of representation that are at play in this institution. The chapter shows which types of employers/businesses (e.g. from agriculture, the professions, SMEs) hold more seats than others, and who is sent to Brussels (people who have actually been entrepreneurs and/or employees of the organizations, depending on the country, period, and organization).
