La représentation du Japon et son évolution à travers l'iconographie des hebdomadaires français (1979-1993)

Abstract : The illustrations and titles that accompany articles and dossiers devoted to Japan are studied in the order of their appearance. After having set forth the main thematic fields, the analysis demonstrates how the rise of Japanese financial power has been accompanied by a hardening of these representations. The anti-Japanese symbols form a more coherent system than do their pro-Japanese counterparts, despite their common roots. The end of the period seems, however, to mark the beginning of a series of favorable changes.
