Les espaces publics sont-ils neutres ? Lecture spatiale des rapports sociaux de genre, lecture genrée des rapports socio-spatiaux

Abstract : The first aim of this article is to discuss and deconstruct the alleged neutrality of the conception of public spaces and of how they are practiced. This reflection introduces the question of living, of home and finally of the appropriation of spaces as illustrated by the action-research experience carried out in Gennevilliers. This article will discuss examples such as collective gardens and the limits experienced in neighbourhoods marked by the latest cycles of urban renewal operations. It will show how spatial and gender justice can be an entry into the debate on democratic access to public spaces. The proposals that emerged from the SensOmoto landscape workshop or from exchanges with architecture students from ENSA Paris La Villette can be discussed through confrontation with spatial realities other than the ones known and studied in this Paris suburb.
